Hey guys. We just put out a small update for the game. This is the first one that we have released that you can download and install straight from the game. You will need to be running v1.3 first, so if you aren’t, then go ahead and download it in the post below this one. Updates won’t be posted here anymore; they will just be downloaded by you through the game.
There aren’t too many changes in the update. It is mainly some polish and tweaks, and just letting everyone out there that yes, we’re still alive.
We certainly need to post here more often, but there is just two of us and we just don’t seem very good at keeping up with our blog .
Anyway, we have been busy working on something and should have a big announcement coming soon!

Download the 1.3 update here!
The next version of Turba is finally here. We really wanted this update to be a substantial one. In this version instead of downloading updates from the site you now have the option to automatically download the update in game. An auto-updater will handle everything. When you need an update it will prompt you to download the new patch!
We really want to keep supporting this game so please get the word out to your friends and family. If you have any ideas or suggestions on how to make the game better or even some marketing advice(:P) send them to TurbaGame(at)gmail.com
Download v1.3 here:
Here are the changes in this update. This is definitely the biggest and best update yet!
*Added support for .wma files. Protected files (files with DRM) CANNOT be played. You must remove the protection first to play the file.
*Added a random song button. This will select a random song from the folder you are currently in in the browser.
*Last.fm scrobbling! Go to options on the main menu and select the Last.fm option. Enter you info there and enable scrobbling to scrobble all the songs you play!
*Unicode support!! You can now play files with foreign chars in the file path, scrobble to Last.fm with ID3 tags with foreign chars, and properly compete on song leaderboards with foreign chars.
*Music CDs now get tagged, via MusicBrainz. No more “unknown artists”, and “track1” titles! (requires an internet connection for the MusicBrainz lookup)
*The highest score for the current song/difficulty/mode you are playing is shown at the beginning of each round.
*Fixed a bug where songs with unknown artists would still add a new high score (they weren’t supposed to).
*Fixed a bug where if you got a high score, then beat that score, some of the info wouldn’t change if it was different (the SP you used, the SP level, the end bonuses).
*Changed the sounds for bombs/silver blocks appearing to something a little less ear shattering

An *unexpected* (huge) new feature!
We’ve got some news that you guys might love =). This might become a TL;DR, but the explanation is necessary, so do read.
Now as you may or may not be aware of, the current version of Turba has absolutely, positively no Unicode (foreign character) support. If you have a file with foreign characters in the filepath itself, your songs won’t even load! And if you had them in the ID3 tag fields, your song title and artist info would just turn into question marks (both internally and externally). This was something that we knew we needed to address somewhere down the line, but we weren’t really thinking of it too much. It would require a rewrite of a lot of stuff and would be very time consuming.
Well, after we got Last.fm support in, something seemed to light a fire under us, completely out of nowhere. Before we knew it, we were tearing through our code base and converting everything to Unicode. After countless hours and hundreds of compiler errors, we emerged victorious. Not only could we now load and play songs with foreign characters in the filepath, we could also properly keep track of the song title and artist, which means we can 1) properly store high scores and 2) scrobble out to Last.fm with said foreign characters.
So in a nutshell, Turba will now be able to internally keep track of foreign characters. You will be able to:
* Actually load and play songs with foreign chars in the file path (and save them to favorites)
* Properly compete for high scores with songs that contain foreign chars in ID3 tags.
* Scrobble to Last.fm (Last.fm will be apart of the new update as well) with foreign chars
The only caveat to all of this is that any song info that you seen drawn in the game will still show “?” for foreign chars. Handling the drawing is another task entirely, and will have to be in a future update, as it could take us a while to figure it all out. But you should know, as stated before, everything is correct internally. So even though you may see “????” on a high score leaderboard, it really is saving your score to the proper table. The “??” is STRICTLY COSMETIC, so don’t worry!
This next update will certainly the biggest and best yet! We know you’re going to love all the hard work we’ve done =).

Just wanted you guys to know that Last.fm scrobbling is implemented into the game! We never thought this feature would feel as cool as it does. Picking and playing random songs with the new random song button and having them scrobble out to the internets just feels awesome for some reason.
We’re still waiting on the guys at Last.fm to get back to us and let us know we are good to go with the agreement we had to fill out to use their API. When that happens (it really should have been done by now, not sure what they’re waiting for), we’ll be ready to release the new update! Stay tuned.

Some cool new features on the way
Hey guys. Just wanted to update you on some things we are working on for the next version of the game!
New features that are already done:
*Random song button: chooses a random song from the folder you are currently browsing!
*Support for .Wma files.
What we’re currently working on:
*Support for Last.fm scrobbling. (this is currently almost done)
After that is finished, we are going to look into allowing you to make some type of playlists within the game (this was suggested to us through email today). This way you’ll be able to play through more songs without having to spend so much time browsing!
There is no date in mind at the moment for a new update release. We’ll see how the playlist thing goes, and see if anything else pops up that we want to add!

Turba v1.2 Update
Hey guys, its been a busy week with the release of the game and a debut trailer. For now its back to improving the game and making it better. This update is just a few bugs we’ve come across and one main unlock change. From giving out a few review copies we have found that we should allow you to unlock Ascend/Descend mode faster since its the meat of the game. More updates to come soon stay tuned!
Change Log v 1.2:
- Fixed some rare crashes that could happen on slower PCs due to multi-threading issues
- Fixed a bug that wouldn’t show your extra computer drives if you had enough of them to make the file browser scroll down.
- You now only have to pass 1 song in Freeplay/Ascend to unlock Ascend/Descend
- Polished numerous little things that you probably won’t ever notice!

Demo bug fixed
It was brought to our attention earlier today that there was a bug in the tutorial that made it impossible to finish. This really made no sense as it worked in the full version and the code is the exact same in the demo. Regardless, we have fixed it and just wanted to let everyone (anyone who has yet to try it out) know.
Also just a small update on things. A lot of people have been asking if the game is going to be on Steam. Well, we have sent out emails to various sites, including Steam, Direct2Drive, and Impulse. We surely want to see Turba on these services, but just getting a reply email from them is a lot harder than it might seem. We will have to wait and see if our latest attempts (we’ve tried before) accomplish anything. We’ll let you know if anything happens!
